Granite State Mini Sprints, Kids rides, Great Day!
Submitted by: Christine Boesch on 2014-08-18 at 10:20

Mother Nature was a race fan again this week at Legion Speedway. Cloud cover and cooler temperatures, along with Dan's track prep, gave drivers a smooth, tacky track to race on for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Challenge. A tightly run program and a handful of green to checkered races made for a great show and an early night at the Legion. Two visiting series returned to the track on Sunday, the DIRT sanctioned Sportsman Modifieds and the Granite State Mini Sprints.

Chris Donnelly was both the winner and the hard charger in the Mike's Automotive Modifieds feature event. He advanced eleven positions in the 20c to finish at the front of the fifteen car field by about eight feet. Todd Buckwold started on the pole in the 631, but didn't have quite enough to hold off Donnelly and finished second. Third place went to Ryan Avery in the 01, who was third in the points race going into the night. Current points leader Gary Siemons finished sixth in his no. 5 machine.

Both Granite State Mini Sprint features went green to checkered. The 500cc winner was Josh Boissoneau in the 05. No. 07 Matt Hoyt and no. 51 Tom Chaffee both came from the rear to finish second and third, respectively. Matt Seymour was the 600cc winner in the 03, Rich Crooker finished second in the 21, and Kyle Belliveau took third in the 15. Kyle was the feature winner the night before at Bear Ridge Speedway and is competing for rookie of the year honors.

The Peanut's Automotive Super Streets/Bond Auto Parts Pure Stock race had a combined field on only nine cars. Regular Sam Comeau didn't make the feature due to engine trouble in the 30 car. The pure stock winner was 77 Ryan Ovitt and 54 Cassie Ottati finished second. Derek O'Hearn in the 55 was the victor, lengthening his points lead. No. 4 Wade Prentice took second, which moved him into second in the points as well, and Nick O'Haire finished third in the 09.

The Enfield Garage Outlaw Mini Stock race was the third green to checkered event of the afternoon. A healthy car count and good racing made for one of the best shows they've put on all season. John Knight was the victor in the 12k, stretching his points lead a little further. Jesse Durkee was second in the 29 and Tim Martin was third in the 28.

During intermission, the Kid's club hosted race car rides for the kids. Thank you to all the drivers who made this possible and to Julie Ovitt Hammond for organizing the event. The kids all had a blast!
