T.C. Forward Dominates The Sportsman Modifieds
Submitted by: AW on 2018-09-23 at 23:09

The Legion Speedway concluded the Season Friday night. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series saw T.C. Forward author a dominating win, his fourth of the season, in the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modifieds. For the Homestead Creations Late Model Sportsman it was the final leg of the Twin State Series with Ryan Christian coming home victorious, winning the race and also taking the series crown. The Rand's Hardware Mini Stocks saw Erin Aiken claim her sixth win of the season. Also on hand were the Bear Ridge Coupes with Tom Placey raking the win and the Wingless Auto Club where Doug McPhail prevailed. The night concluded with a Powder Puff won by Cassie Wright.

The Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modified Main event got off to a rocky start with the caution flying by the time the field hit the second turn for a four car altercation. On the restart T.C. Forward sailed to the lead with rookie Wayland Childs running second. Just two laps later another caution appeared for a turn three get together involving Matt Lashua and Trevor Randlett. When racing resumed it stayed clean and green the rest of the way with T. C. Forward easily separating himself from the rest of the field. Childs ran second with Todd Buckwold third. Buckwold tried for numerous laps to use the low side to pass Childs, but finally moved high and rim rode to second. At the Checkers it was T.C. Forward with his fourth win of the season. Todd Buckwold came across the line second and with that finish cemented the 2018 points' Championship for the division. Wayland Childs finished third with Ricky Sanville and Ryan Avery, making his first appearance of the year, completing the top five.

For the Homestead Creations Late Model Sportsman it was the running of the Final Leg of the Twin State Series. Perennial front runner Ryan Christian took the lead when the race commenced and led the entire distance to take the win. It wasn't a walk in the park though as he had to endure six cautions before taking the checkers. Matt Pike ran a smooth race to finish second with the hotly contested third position finally going to Russ Coutu. Scott Heath was fourth and Walt Hammond fifth. With his win Ryan Christian was crowned the Twin State Series Champion and Matt Pike's second place finish cemented his second straight Late Model Championship at The Legion Speedway.

When the Rand's Hardware Mini Stocks took the green Jack Cook took to the front. It only lasted a lap though as David Flanders blasted to the front. The only caution of the event happened a few laps later for debris on the front stretch and it proved to be what Erin Aiken needed as when the green flew once again she flew to the front, not to be denied to take her sixth win of the season and cement the 2018 Mini Stock Championship. David Flanders challenged Aiken multiple times but had to settle for second with Jacob Brown running a strong third. Marcus Jeness and Sean Lantas rounded out the top five.

The Wingless Auto Club was on hand and provided an entertaining event with Doug McPhail being the show. After pitting on a lap four caution he worked his way back to the front, taking the lead from Wade Prentice with a slick move and ran to the win. Prentice was second with Mark Cole third.

The Bear Ridge Sportsman Coupes put on their usual fine show with Tom Placey taking the lead on lap four and holding off the challenges of Chris LaForest to take the win. LaForest was second with Bob Shepard third.

The annual Powder Puff concluded the on track activities for the season with Cassie Wright dominating for the win. In a fender banging near photo finish for second Christine Herbert bested Kayla Fife.

The next event for the Legion Speedway is the annual banquet, this year being held on October 20th. For more information visit www.LegionSpeedway.com
