T.C. Forward Claims his Third Sportsman Modified Win
Submitted by: AW on 2018-09-07 at 23:30

The Legion Speedway was back in action Friday night with the competitors of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series putting on a great show. In the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modifieds T.C. Forward led all but one lap to take his third win of the rapidly disappearing season. Kelly Miller Sr won for the second time n the Homestead Creations Late Models and David Flanders found victory lane for the second time this year. The Granite State Mini Sprints were also on hand with Zach Herbert dominating the 600cc event and Riley Chaffee pulling off the win in the 500cc main.

T.C. Forward dominated the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modified main event by taking the lead when the green flag flew with Ryan Christian lurking in second. There were only two cautions in the event with Forward handily holding back Christian after the first one but the restart after the second yellow saw Ryan Christian bolt into the lead, but it only lasted a lap before T.C. Forward flew back to the top spot. Just a few laps later Todd Buckwold would work his way under Christian to take over the second spot. Buckwold closed the gap on Forward and even got a wheel under him once but eventually T.C. Forward pulled away to take his third victory of the season. Todd Buckwold crossed the line in second with Ryan Christian third. Trevor Randlett had his best run of the season, finishing fourth with points' leader Jeff Huntington fifth.

The Homestead Creation Late Model Sportsman Feature got off to a slow start with the caution waving before a lap was complete for a backstretch incident involving Scott Heath and Travis Smith. This allowed current points leader Matt Pike to take the lead, holding it through a restart with Kelly Miller Sr, who started last on the field now up to the second spot. Miller Sr made a couple pf smooth moves to take the lead from Pike and from there ran to an impressive victory. Matt Pike finished second with the race of the night being for third. Russ Coutu held off the aggressive advances of Travis Smith until turn four of the last lap when Smith got under him to finish third. Russ Coutu was fourth with Scott Heath fifth.

The Rand's Hardware Mini Stocks saw ageless veteran Jack Cook lead the first three laps before David Flanders overpowered Cook on a restart to take the lead, dropping Cook to second. Meanwhile Rich Willey moved to third and started to challenge Cook for second finally completing the pass after a handful of laps. The race stayed clean and green the rest of the way with David Flanders picking up his second win of the season. Rich Willey was second with Jack Cook third. Jacob Brown and Erin Aiken rounded out the top five.

The Granite State Mini Sprints were also on hand and were running wingless with Riley Chaffee taking the win in the 500cc Main event after a great battle with Cody Willette. Eric Relation made a late race charge to finish second with Matt Collins third, Cody Willette fourth and Ryan Farwell fifth. The 600cc Feature was the Zach Herbert show as he blasted from last to first in the first lap and went on to take a dominating win. Drew Eldridge was a strong second with Kyle Belliveau third. Tony Shaw was fourth and Tyler Jones finished fifth.

This Friday night, September 14th will be an action packed night as joining the regular divisions of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series will be the USAC Dirt Midgets, The Sprint Cars of New England and the Granite State Mini Sprints along with an Enduro to cap off the evening.
