Wayland Childs Takes His First Career Sportsman Modified Victory
Submitted by: AW on 2018-08-14 at 23:19

There was lots of exciting clean racing for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series at the Legion Speedway on Friday night as three of the five Features run went caution free. Wayland Childs picked up Career win number one in the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modifieds with Ryan Christian taking the win in the Homestead Creations Late Models. The Rand's Hardware Mini Stocks ran twin 20's with Erin Aiken claiming victory in the first Segment and Tim St. John cross the line first in the second one. Overall Erin Aiken took the win, her fifth of the season. The Bear Ridge Sportsman Coupes were also on hand and Chris LaForest took the win,

When the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modified Main event took the green Trevor Randlett took the lead. His run at the top spot was short however, as just two laps later Wayland Childs ducked to the inside and shot by Randlett taking the lead. Randlett was soon challenged for second by Todd Buckwold with Buckwold finally taking the position as the race approached the halfway point. As the crossed flags flew, last weeks' winner TC Forward, who started scratch on the field moved to third. Just a lap later the only caution of the race occurred for an infield tire that was kicked onto the racing surface in turn four. When the race restarted the running order remained the same but after a few laps TC Forward worked by Buckwold for second. At the Checkers it was Wayland Childs with his first career Sportsman Modified win. TC Forward was second with Todd Buckwold third. Ryan Christian and Jeff Huntington completed the top five.

Russ Coutu took the lead early in the Homestead Creation Late Model Feature holding the top spot through a couple of cautions before Ryan Christian took the spot and brought Walter Hammond to second with him. A lap later Matt Lashua moved to third with the top three remainung the same throughout the duration of the event, even though there were multiple cautions. At the conclusion of the feature it was a Canaan, NH sweep as winner Ryan Christian, second place Walter Hammond and third place Matt Lashua all live in Canaan. Current Points leader Matt Pike was fourth with Travis Smith fifth.0020

The Rand's Hardware Mini Stocks ran Twin 20 Lap events combining the races for an overall winner. It was fast paced action as both 20 lap segments went caution free with Erin Aiken, Jack Cook and Jacob Brown the top three in the first segment. The second segment found Tim St. John, Erin Aiken and Jacob Brown the top three. The overall winner was current Points Erin Aiken with Jacob Brown second and Tim St. John third. Sean Lantas and Jack Cook rounded out the top five.

The Bear Ridge Speedway Sportsman Coupes were the visiting division this week. Tim Hodge jumped to the lead early and led the first seven laps before Chris LaForest took the top spot and led the rest of the way. At the checkers in the caution free event it was Chris LaForest with the win, Tim Hodge second and Bob Shepard third. Tom Placey and Dan Johnston were fourth and fifth respectively.

This Friday night, September 7th joining the regular divisions of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series will be the Granite State Mini Sprints running Wingless. The USAC Dirt Midgets who were originally on the schedule have been pushed back a week to September 14th.
