Wayne Stearns cops his Second Win This Season
Submitted by: Alan Ward on 2017-08-27 at 22:49

It was a night of Twos' in The O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series. Wayne Stearns dominate the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modified Feature for his second win of the year. Bob Crawford scored his second consecutive win in the Homestead Creations Sportsman Late Models and Rich Willey also won scored his second win of the season in the Rand's Hardware Outlaw Mini stocks. Also on hand were the Bear Ridge Sportsman Coupes with Jason Horniak topping the field.

Former track Champion Wayne Stearns got a late start to the season in the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modifieds but has been impressive with no finish worse than fourth since his return to the quarter mile Speedway. On this evening Stearns beat Mike Gramolin for the lead as the field motored into the first turn after the initial green. That was all Stearns needed as the event went caution free and Stearns car was really hooked up. The battle for second between three drivers was entertaining and allowed Stearns to pull away for an easy win. Ricky Sanville won the battle for second with Tanner Seimons third, points' leader Jason Sanville was fourth and Pole Sitter Mike Gramolin completed the top five.

The Homestead Creations Sportsman Late Model Feature saw Cassie Ottati power into the lead from the pole position when the field took the green flag. The caution came out with four laps in the books for Ryan Christian, who rolled to a stop in turn two with a flat tire. On the restart Ottati encountered problems in turn one and the entire field passed her with Doug Boucher being the biggest benefactor claiming the lead. Toby Stark moved to the second spot and was applying intense pressure for the top spot when the caution flew for a multi car jingle at the exit of turn two involving four cars. On the restart Bob Crawford muscled his way past Stark to claim the second spot, setting his sights on leader Boucher. The caution flew again and on the restart Crawford powered into the lead with Boucher drifting back through the field and being the next caution just two laps later for a mechanical failure. When green flag racing resumed Bob Crawford retained the lead and went on to victory. Travis Smith made a last lap pass to finish second with Toby Stark a disappointing third. Ryan Christian and Matt Pike completed the top five.

Veteran Jack Cook returned to competition after a bone jarring crash last week in the Rand’s Hardware Outlaw Mini Stocks and promptly powered by pole sitter Tim St John to take the lead when the green flew. Cook led three laps until sixth starting Rich Willey claimed the top spot. Two laps later the first of three yellows came out. On the restart Cook got the jump and led a lap before Rich Willey reclaimed the top spot. Willey held off all challengers to take the win. Tim ST. John was second with Erin Aiken third. Jack Cook was fourth with current points' leader Sean Lantas fifth.

The Bear Ridge Speedway Sportsman Coupes were the visiting division for the evening, making their second appearance of the season. Going into turn one on the initial start a scramble occurred that left Tanner Seimons sitting at the bottom of turn two. On the restart Jason Horniak swiftly moved to the top spot, a position he would retain throughout the event. Chris LaForest settled into second with Bryan King running third. Matt Ellsworth moved to third after the last restart, holding off a fast closing Tanner Seimons. At the finish it was Jason Horniak with the win, Chris LaForest second and Matt Ellsworth third. Tanner Seimons and Tom Placey rounded out the top five.

Appearing this Friday, September 8th along with all the cars and stars of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series will be the Sprint Cars of New England and the Granite State Mini Sprints
