Wayne Stearns Returns to Victory Lane

Former Champion Wayne Stearns returned to Victory Lane after a long absence in the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modifieds. Other winners in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series on Rand's Hardware Night included Dave Durkee in the Outlaw Mini Stocks and Doug Boucher in the Sportsman Late Models.
When the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modifieds took the Green it was Wayne Stearns blasting into the top spot before a single lap was complete with Jeff Huntington settling into second. After the first of five caution flags flew for a minor incident Stearns once again resumed the lead when racing resumed. Ricky Sanville got the jump on the restart and took second from Huntington and top three remained the same through the 25th lap of the 30 lap event when Huntington and Jason Sanville tangled battling for third, handing the spot to Ryan Christian. When the final checkers flew it was former track Champion Wayne Stearns taking his first win of the season with Ricky Sanville second and Ryan Christian third. Mike Gramolin and Matt Williams completed the top five.
The start of the Homestead Creations Sportsman Late Model Feature saw Hunter Nutter power into the lead from the outside pole position when the field took the green. The caution flew with only one circuit complete for turn four tangle involving three cars. On the restart Doug Boucher got a great jump took the top spot, leaving Nutter to try and fend off the challenges for second. Matt Pike finally was able to work by Nutter for second just past the halfway point and set his sights on Boucher. While Pike was trying to close the gap on the leader Nutter was under attack from Toby Stark for third. Stark was finally able to capture third with three laps to go. At the finish it was Doug Boucher with a dominating win, Matt Pike in second and Toby Stark third. Hunter Nutter held on for fourth with Travis Smith fifth.
The Rand's Hardware Outlaw Mini Stocks ran two 20 lap segments, combining the finish to determine an overall winner. Dave Durkee was the overall winner by virtue of finishing third in the first 20 lapper and winning the second one. Tim St. John placed second overall with finishes of second and fourth with Rich Willey third with finishes of fifth and third. Eric Castiglioni was fourth and Jack Cook fifth
Appearing this Friday, August 18th along with all the cars and stars of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series will be Granite State Mini Sprints and the Sportsman Coupes also make their second appearance of the year.
The Legion Speedway is located on Route 25 at the Wentworth/Rumney NH Town line with racing every Friday Night at 7:00 PM
