Derek O'Hearn Wins with A Dominating Sportsman Modified Performance
Submitted by: Alan Ward on 2017-07-23 at 13:27

Derek O'Hearn took a dominating win on Homestead Creations Night in the Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modifieds. Matt Pike was not to be outshined though as he authored another winning performance in the Homestead Creations Sportsman Late Models for his third consecutive Victory. The other winner in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series was Chris Conroy as he topped the Outlaw Mini Stocks. The visiting Sprint Cars of New England saw Ryan Avery take win.

For the rest of the field in The Peanut's Auto Sportsman Modifieds it was over as soon as the event took the green as Derek O'Hearn jumped to the lead, never to really be challenged in spite of two restarts to take the win. It was the first win of the season for the defending Track Champion. Ricky Sanville moved into second and Jason Sanville to third on lap five and that is how the running order remained for the duration of the event with Derek O’Hearn taking the win, Ricky Sanville second and Jason Sanville third. Chris Donnelly and Ryan Christian rounded out the top five.

On their Sponsors night The Homestead Creations Sportsman Late Models ran twin 25's. The first Feature for the Late Models saw Doug Boucher jump to the lead, remaining there until he had a mechanical failure causing a yellow. When green flag racing resumed Bob Crawford took the lead, battling with Hunter Nutter who nosed ahead to lead a single lap before Crawford regained the top spot. The yellow flew again and on the next restart Matt Pike claimed the lead. The yellow flew yet again and this time Crawford got the jump retaking the top spot until he was the cause of the last yellow of the event. From there Matt Pike took command to take the win. Scott Heath was second with Toby Stark third. The second 25 lap event was a little calmer with Travis Smith jumping to the lead, holding it until he was the caution with fifteen laps complete. From there Matt Pike took command to take the win with Bob Crawford second and Doug Boucher third. The overall win by combining the results of the two events saw Matt Pike take the win, Bob Crawford second, Scott Heath third, Russ Coutu fourth and Toby Stark fifth.

When the green flag flew in the Rand's Hardware Outlaw Mini Stock's Chris Conroy deftly moved from third to first before a single lap was complete. Just like the other features in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series Conroy would lead the entire distance to take the victory. It wasn't easy for Conroy though as Jonathan Baker challenged for the lead multiple times and was within stringing distance for the entire event. At the Checkers it was Chris Conroy with the win, Jonathan Baker second Dave Durkee third. Jesse Durkee and Rich Willey completed the top five.

The Sprint Cars of New England were also on hand for the evening. Christine Boesch jumped into the lead at the onset and led until she tangled with a car she was lapping with seven laps complete, unfortunately ending Boesch's night. On the restart Ryan Avery, a former Sportsman Modified Champion at Legion Speedway, assumed the lead and went on to take the popular win. Clay Dow crossed the line in second with Will Hull third, Tyler Austin fourth and Kevin Chaffee fifth.

The Speedway would like to thank everyone that donated to the very successful Kid's Bike Giveaway. This event made a large number of children very happy.

This Friday night at 7:00PM, July 28th joining the regular divisions of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twilight Racing Series will be the Granite State Mini Sprints and the Wingless Auto Club.

The Legion Speedway is located on Route 25 at the Wentworth/Rumney NH Town line with racing every Friday Night at 7:00 PM. For more information visit www.LegionSpeedway.com
